With an original release in May 2014 and the deluxe edition releasing in April 2017, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a staple of the Nintendo Switch library. This classic racer is known for its variety of items, racers, karts and especially tracks. In this article we’ll be going over my top five tracks from the base game Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Sunshine Airport

Sunshine Airport is one of those courses that make you think ‘How was this not done before?’. Driving through an airport is a crazy experience that should be a staple in all Mario Kart games to come. Whether you’re barrelling down the runway or crashing through the baggage reclaim at the finish line, this course has something for everyone and is a fun drive the entire time.

Mount Wario

One of the courses in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe that doesn’t loop is Mount Wario, meaning the three laps are unique and sequential rather than the same lap three times. This makes the course one of the rarer ones in the series. There’s nothing like the feeling of gliding down the final straight of the mountain while fighting for that photo finish!

N64 Toads Turnpike

Our first retro track in the list, (Spoiler Alert: It’s also the only one), is N64 Toads Turnpike. It’s such a thrill to be racing down a turnpike dodging all of the moving traffic that is going way too slow. This new edition introduces walls that you can drive on to dodge all of the traffic, it’s a bit slower but much safer without all of the cars in your way. Overall, it’s a great track that always produces a good time.

Hyrule Circuit

Hyrule Circuit is based off of Hyrule from The Legend of Zelda series of games, with a race through Hyrule Castle and its grounds. The coins are replaced with Rupees and the track obstacles are substituted with enemies from from the Zelda series. This track is so atmospheric and a wonder to drive through. A lot of Zelda fans will say that this was their dream track and now you can actually drive it.

Excitebike Arena

My final track is Excitebike Arena, this is a very simple oval shaped loop with a series of ramps and jumps to traverse and build up speed. Its always satisfying to hit a line of trick after trick and go flying around the bends while stealing the gold medal! This track is based off of the NES game of the same name and gives you a similar feeling of the adrenaline you get from flipping off your bike and getting those boosts.

Thank you as always for reading and don’t forget to check out our other posts! Also, we’ll be uploading a top 5 list for the booster course pass tomorrow so check back for that also!
